Roberta’s locavores farm an acre of rooftop

(Note: Brooklyn Grange will begin selling their produce by mid-May, not Apr. 15, as the slideshow says.)

New York City’s largest urban farm, Brooklyn Grange, had its first planting last night. Located in East New York, the 40,000 square foot farm is six to seven times the size of the city’s next largest rooftop farm .

Founded in part by Roberta’s owners and Gwen Schantz, the restaurant’s farm manager, they plan on beginning to harvest and sell after the first thaw. This means you should be able to buy Brooklyn lettuce by mid-May.
